Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone visits Snohomish County Criminal History, the reasons it is used, and the limited situations in which another service may receive it. It also explains how outside search tools and links operate. By continuing to browse or use this website, you accept the practices stated in this policy.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Snohomish County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained so it can be answered. We keep that submission within the team and do not disclose it outside the organization unless the law requires disclosure.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the site's systems may collect routine technical facts about that visit:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The referring website, when one is available
  • The pages opened and the time spent on them
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show aggregate patterns, such as which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers assist with that measurement. A browser can be set to reject cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Finding and repairing performance or technical problems
  • Maintaining site availability and page speed
  • Routing a search request to the provider that runs the tool
  • Measuring which content visitors use and where it can be improved
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Snohomish County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, court clerks, Washington State Patrol, and the Washington Statewide Registered Sex Offender and Kidnapping Offender Public Website. Government agency records are subject to the Washington Public Records Act, chapter 42.56 RCW, and criminal-history dissemination limits in chapter 10.97 RCW. Court files follow GR 31 instead of the Public Records Act. This private site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal dossiers.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the site's search boxes. Information submitted to one of those tools is handled under that company's privacy policy, not this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Snohomish County offices, Washington courts, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's policy controls that visit. Review it before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select ads. That process takes place through the provider's systems rather than a criminal-record database maintained here.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers that measure site traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks that serve material on site pages
  • Search providers that process queries submitted through their tools
  • Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information collected through the site. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Applicable Washington privacy and consumer-protection law may provide rights beyond this policy. The Washington Public Records Act, chapter 42.56 RCW, and the Criminal Records Privacy Act, chapter 10.97 RCW, govern public-agency access and criminal-history dissemination, not this private site's analytics. For data held directly by this site, you may:

  • Request deletion of data associated with you
  • Ask to correct inaccurate information
  • Seek a copy of information held about you
  • Opt out of some forms of processing where available

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised as site practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear on this page with its new effective date.
